Review: How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days by Kerrelyn Sparks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So we all remember Kerrelyn Sparks, the writer of the Love At Stake series? You, know, with the vampires? Well this is her new series. The Embraced. This one is with magic, shifters, fey, etc etc. This new world is magical and it's set way back when where the people still bathe out of tubs where you fill it using water buckets and still had a lady in waiting. But yet it has this modern feel where it didn't read as an old timey, historical romance which was interesting to me because I despise historical romances. Anyways I'm rambling, so we meet Luciana, who is an Embraced, i.e, she was born with some sort of magical aspect. Hers is that she can talk to the dead. She was raised as an orphan on this little Isle where her and a bunch of other girls reside thinking that they had no family. Luciana later finds out she does have a family and in fact a twin. Then enter Leo, The Beast of Benwick. He's also an Embraced and his gift is lightning. He hasn't felt a touch since he was five and he's craving companionship. The subjects thinks he's this horrible person that kills with just a single touch for fun, but Leo is the sweetest and funniest thing you could imagine. So, I won't give out anymore details than that, because I don't want to ruin the story, but these two meet and hit it off instantly. They had an instant spark. (Hah get it? Spark because he's.....yea I'll see myself out) Add in a few ghosts, a lightning rod (heh) and a shifter name Brody, and you get one hilarious adventure and shenanigans. The first few chapters, Ms. Sparks sets the scene and give us background information on the characters and it just sucks you right in. I lost sleep last night just trying to finish this book in one sitting. It was THAT good. It's fun, sexy and the secondary characters PARTICIPATE in the story and makes it even better. Each one of them were involved in someway as a plot device that kept the story rolling. I'm sad that the vampires have found their end in the other series, but I'm glad Ms. Sparks introduced us to this new world of magic. Can't wait to continue this series. I'm positive the next one will be of Brigitte and I hope Brody and Mauve find themselves together.
